Bruce Hall

Our Beef Boner Extraordinaire

When did you start butchering?
I began my apprenticeship in South Tweed in 1979 and completed my qualifications in 1983.

Where else have you worked?
On completing my apprenticeship on the Tweed I worked there for several years.

My wife and I built a house in Wollongbar and I then began butchering in Lismore and then in 1988 started working at Spearings Butchery in Main Street, Alstonville.

Do you have a family?
Yes, My wife, Leanne, and I were married in 1983 and we have two sons, Brent and Luke. Both boys are now married and I have two wonderful daughter-in-laws, Tonia and Amy.

Hobbies?
My hobby is Speedway and I began racing at Lismore Speedway in 1985 and competed for several years before devoting more time to my young family.

I joined the ranks in the Wingless Sprint division in 2009 and have this year retired from racing.

I now enjoy helping out my eldest son Brent as pit crew in the V8 Dirt Modified Division.

What is your favourite food?
Steak! ….. What else is there?

What do you love about Alstonville?
I love the atmosphere of a small country town. I love being able to live 20 minutes out of town in a quiet and peaceful setting. Alstonville is situated in an amazing position with the beaches, rivers, rainforests, town and cities all within a short drive!

Have you ever travelled?
Yes. I have been to the USA when our children were young but my passion is for Kenya, Africa. I have been to Kenya three times and have another trip planned for 2016. When in Kenya, my wife and I visit our sponsor children and then volunteer in an orphanage for about a month. We love spending time with the children and helping out around the orphanage and the local community. The only thing that would make these trips better is if they invented time-travel…. I hate the plane trips!

Tell us about you and Alstonville Quality Meats?
I began working for Alstonville Quality Meats in 2004. Having worked in the main street of Alstonville for 27 years I have made many friendships and watched many friends, families and work colleagues journey through life. It is great to have such long standing relationships. I have always enjoyed working in a busy shop and we have an awesome team presently at AQM.
