Prize Winning Aussie Bacon – The Breakfast Maker

It’s the not so secret ingredient to the BEST breakfast, but everyone has their favourite way to enjoy it and this week, Aussie bacon is in the spotlight.

Australian Bacon Week runs from 25th June to 1st July, celebrating 100% Australian bacon, but also drawing attention to the competition local bacon faces from imported products.

Ashley from Alstonville Quality Meats entered the Australian PorkMark Bacon Awards, held as part of the celebrations and judges said: “Nice looking Rasher, great size and shape, great smoky aroma, cure/cooking and texture were bang on, excellent balance and taste”. The team at Alstonville Quality Meats were awarded  3rd place in NSW. They are extremely impressed with this award.

“We are proud to make our own bacon using 100% Aussie pork from Bangalow Sweet Pork,” Ashley said.

“We enter into the Awards because it’s always great to get feedback good and bad on the products you make, therefore it helps you improve areas as needed”

This year more than 125 portions of bacon from across the country were put to the test in the Australian Bacon Awards, with the quality impressing judges. Fleischmeister Horst Schurger and chefs Simon Bestley and Paul McDonald assessed the appearance, aroma and taste of the products, noting that processors had again improved their products.3rd bacon awards
